MAGALHAES is a new network covering Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean. Its key objective is to encourage mobility and cooperation programmes between the higher education institutions that are network members.
SMILE is a groundbreaking programme within the MAGALHAES network, concerned with student mobility. SMILE is an acronym for "Student Mobility in Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe". SMILE drew its inspiration from the European mobility programme ERASMUS and works similarly to promote student mobility from Latin America and the Caribbean to Europe and from Europe to Latin America and the Caribbean.
The UPM is a member of this network, and the Facultad de Informática is a partner of Magalhães and its SMILE programme, having entered into bilateral agreements with eminent Latin American higher education institutions.
